According to the Honduran government, the department of Lempira is the poorest department in all of Honduras. Here are some pictures of houses in this part of the country, where dirt bricks and clay roofing tiles are the main building materials.

Greetings Sowers! We have much to be thankful for in the US. Not many people live in houses like these...and yet we complain so often. I did notice that the Honduran people seemed happy most of the time. A lesson for those of us who have so much. Love Beth Webb
We traveled in the Peten region in Guatemala, which is also very poor. The people are happy and cheerful, so thankful for all the gifts their lives bring. They are poor but not impoverished. The poverty seems less of a soul crusher if everyone is in the same boat. They find simple pleasures and are very proud of their heritage. I loved the Guatemalans.
