Things That Make My Life Harder, part 2

Head lice. They have been making my life harder (and itchier) lately. As long as my children continue to play at the park with other children, it seems this is going to be a constant battle.

Yes, I've tried mayonnaise, vinegar, and other non-chemical remedies. For that matter, I've used the chemical remedies, as well. We still have lice. A few weeks ago, I really thought I'd eliminated them, but yesterday I found some new ones. Sigh.

I'm starting to think having my whole family shave their heads is a viable option. Is that a bad sign?

My mom used to rinse our heads with kerosene when we came home from school with lice. She applied the kerosene and rubbed it in to the scalp, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then washed our heads with regular shampoo twice to be sure to get all the kerosene out. We only needed one washing with kerosene and the lice were gone.

Whoa Kathleen. And how long did it take to get the stink out?

Trish - Don't you have to wash everything in hot water too or pack in black garbage bags for a day or so? Clothes, linens, etc.
I remember doing that in our house once as a kid. My mom did home daycare.

Oh, the Lord bless you and keep you. When we were in Honduras after Mitch, we got lice, with no electricity and intermittent water. Plus I had the crazy idea that we should do our school day before I searched heads, so I ended up outside in waning light, looking for those elusive critters.
Be careful with stuff like Kerosene, some things can be absorbed and cuase major damage. I have a theory that if you got a salon style hairdryer, and sat under it a few minutes each day, it would over heat the eggs, and they wouldn't hatch.
God grant you wisdom.
