The Best Birthday Gift EVER!

Rejoice! Allen’s birthday is coming up in early January and he is the world’s easiest person to shop for - because all he wants is to feed more children! When Facebook suggested that he organize a fundraiser for his birthday, he considered all of the worthy charities and settled on . . .  Sowers4Pastors! Specifically, he is asking people to donate to defray the $2500 cost of getting a shipping container full of food through Honduran Customs. After three days on Facebook, more than $1500 had been donated, causing Allen to realize that he under-asked. He now wants to cast a wider net by making it clear that this is an ongoing opportunity.

This is your chance to get the maximum bang for your buck. A container’s worth of food (nutrient enriched rice/soy/vegetable mixture) has a value of $100,000. The cost of shipping the food to Honduras is $6,000. The food and shipping costs have already been covered by another organization. However, that organization does not have in their budget to pay the recently increased cost of $2500 to pay for “duty-free” entry into Honduras. By paying that $2500, Sowers4Pastors will receive the food, and will be able to provide two nutritious meals for one penny.

To put it another way:

For every donation of $10, TWENTY CHILDREN will receive two meals a week for a YEAR! 

A donation of $500 feeds ONE THOUSAND CHILDREN two meals a week for a YEAR!

God has blessed everyone in a different amount, but we all have the ability to give in the way God has enabled us. "Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? James 2:15-16

This is not merely a humanitarian thing. Remember that the feeding programs are all done through the local churches, and are run by local pastors and their congregations. There is an evangelism and outreach emphasis in each program. There is a much bigger picture than just telling a child, “Here’s a meal.” The Gospel message is shared, in word and deed. The needier families, when connected with the church, are able to get additional help in times of crisis. In one instance, a single mom and her children were saved from homelessness when a church member - who knew about the family's plight because of a connection made through the church-run feeding center - let them move into their vacant watchman’s cottage.

The end of the year is a great time to make an additional charitable contribution. You don’t need to do this through Allen’s Facebook fundraiser. Simply go to the donation page on the Sowers4Pastors website. There, you will see a dropdown menu where it says “Purpose”. Scroll down and you will find “Feeding Center Program”. You will be able to make your donation with the click of a mouse.

A minimum of four containers full of food have been offered to Sowers4Pastors for this same amount, over the course of 2020 - and there is the potential for more. As stated previously, this is an ongoing opportunity! If it helps, you can continue to think of this as an ongoing birthday gift for Allen. It’s like the Fruit-of-the-Month Club, but oh-so-much better.
