Netflix, Hulu, and the like have spoiled many of us to the joys of binge-watching. There’s a reasonably good chance that you’re the sort of person who waits until the last episode of a season has dropped before starting episode 1. But today, we are starting a blog series. Please don’t wait until the final week to binge-read! Well, you can if you want, but really… Why would you? This blog series is all about the people working for Sowers4Pastors. In particular, it’s focusing on the full-time, permanent members of the staff.
“Episode 1” is all about the guys who work in administrative/office positions. Some of this information comes from a phone call with Trish. Some of it is from a questionnaire that Rachel sent out for the men to complete. As you can see, this is a very well-produced Blogumentary!
MELVIN
Let’s begin with Melvin. You’re probably familiar with Melvin because he’s been around for a long time. He has been on staff for 9 years. He’s like one of the family and not just because he’s Iris’s brother. Melvin is HIGHLY VALUED! That is a fact Trish mentioned no fewer than three times.
Melvin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Social Development. Basically, he studied how to help Hondurans work with Non-governmental organizations like S4P. He does a ton of administrative work. Trish said that he is particularly good at talking to people and maintaining good working relationships with pastors. Among other things, Melvin coordinates the motorcycles for pastors aspect of the ministry. He is also one of the worship leaders at his church, and has wonderful onstage energy and a talent for music that he uses effectively for God's glory!
When asked what his favorite part of working with S4P is, Melvin answered, “I really like almost everything, reaching the communities and delivering backpacks to the children.”
He is the only married member of today’s episode. He has been married for 12 years and is the father of two daughters, ages 9 and 2.
Trish also proclaimed that Melvin is “super fun!” She said he’s serious about his work, but he’s also a good person to hang out with.
MEMO
Memo has been with S4P for around 4 years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pre-teaching and Teaching English. Oh, and he’s currently a law intern.
Trish said that Memo has a “good eye.” That’s perfect since he does photography for S4P. He also teaches programs for teens. When Sowers4Pastors started the sister church program, most of the kids were elementary age. The program has been so successful at keeping kids in school that they’ve had to develop programs for older children. It is always the desire of S4P for the local church to ultimately take that on. In the meantime, Memo has been helping to fill that gap.
QUITO
Quito holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Social Development. He started working for Sowers4Pastors in 2017, when he was only 17-years-old.
When asked what his favorite part of working with S4P is, Quito said that it’s being able to use the talents that God has given him in the area of graphic design and videography, to be able to show the world how God is manifesting himself in the communities of western Honduras. Specifically through pastors and different community leaders carrying the word of God and saving souls for Christ.
Trish repeatedly spoke of Quito’s amazing work ethic. She said that when he was only 17, he would jump into helping with any task. If he didn’t have an assigned task, he would help anyone around him. That included working with the farm guys. Trish described him as someone who will often work from home because he will simply work until the job is done. That might mean finishing a video at 3:00 AM! Oh, and he also has a knack for fixing internal computer problems. When Trish talks about him, you can almost see his superhero cape blowing in the breeze!
Quito said, “I consider myself somewhat quiet, but God has taught me that I can speak not only using my mouth, but also through my videos and designs.”
REY
Rey is the newest member of the group. He has only been with Sowers4Pastors full-time for a few months. However, he previously worked as a S4P translator from time to time. Rey graduated from bilingual school (high school) last fall.
He was originally hired to help with the tedious work of creating paper profiles on each child in the sponsorship program. That is no small task! It’s the sort of job that requires you to just keep going. He demonstrated such an amazing work ethic that he was brought on to work in the office M-F. He helps people who go to the Bible bookstore and the pastors who arrive to pick up food. In the past, there wasn’t a full-time person to handle those tasks. Someone would always have to drop what they were doing to take care of things.
Trish said, “Rey has the office as his kingdom, which he keeps clean and organized. He also does other work, such as letter translating and working on child profiles.” Rey was instrumental in putting together the latest round of pastor gifts, too.
When asked what his favorite part of working with the ministry is, Rey said, “translating letters, documents, and profiles.” He understands that he is helping the sponsors and children “learn more about each other, talk and share good times, remember essential principles of the Christian life, and much more.” As a bonus, all of the translating is helping him improve his already excellent English!
Rey was an excellent student and he has big goals. He wants to become a doctor and would love to be able to study abroad. Trish said, “We certainly don’t want to impede his life goals, but we’re glad to have him for as long as he’s here!”
Stay tuned for next week’s Blogumentary episode!
