On the First Day of Gifts for Gracias . . .

Over the course of the next 12 days, I will be writing about the different ways people have participated in the Gifts for Gracias Project over the years. If you are unfamiliar with Gifts for Gracias, or would like to see an overview of how it works, here are some links to posts from previous years, with that information.

Everything you need to know, to make a gift (and also, WHY we do this project) HERE.

How does the Gifts for Gracias project work? Answers here:  Part 1 and Part 2

Where do the Gifts for Gracias gifts GO? Find out here!

Please note, that the deadlines are a bit earlier this year - local donations in Florida must be in our hands by September 24th, which is SOON! (Donations will be received in Maryland until the end of October.)

The First Day of Gifts for Gracias: Make a shoe box gift

Gifts for Gracias gifts go out primarily to pastors and their families, so not every gift includes the typical child's shoe box gift . . . but the majority of the recipients are families with children, so we require a lot of these gifts! If you would like to make up a shoe box style gift for a child, you don't necessarily have to put it in a shoe box! A creative container, like a child sized backpack, can be used, or a large ziplock bag . . . I'm sure you can think of other possibilities!

Boxes should fit into one of the following categories, and be labeled accordingly:
Baby girl or Baby boy
Preschool girl or Preschool boy
5-7 yr old girl or 5-7 yr old boy
8-12 yr old girl or 8-12 yr old boy
Teen Girl or Teen Boy (fyi: we never receive enough gifts for teen boys)

The following items are suggestions for inclusion in the gifts (items in bold are especially useful):
- tooth brushes, toothpaste, and other toiletries
- crayons, markers, stickers, colored pencils, coloring books
- pads of paper, pencils, pens, school supplies
- combs, brushes, hair bows
- soap, baby shampoo, baby bottles, rattles
- balls, small toys, socks
- soccer balls, inexpensive watches, baseball caps, wallets
- dolls, stuffed animals, sunglasses
