There’s never a bad time to ask for prayer, but this seems like a particularly good time. There has been a lot of stress on everybody lately and Sowers4Pastors feels this is a moment for them to contemplate spiritual warfare. In the midst of COVID-19 and the stress of backpack season, it’s important to remember there is a spiritual battle going on, too.
Trish shared Ephesians 6:12:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of the age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (NKJ version)
Please keep this verse in mind as you remember them in prayer.
Here are a few specific prayer requests:
As exciting as collecting backpacks is for all involved in the ministry, the trip does take a toll. Travel, extra work, exhaustion, and family members being separated for long periods of time are excellent reasons to pray.
Pray for Trish as she gets ready to join most of her family in Florida.
Please pray for Iris as she continues to grow a tiny human and care for Abby and RJ while she oversees RJ’s online schooling. The decision for Russell to forego his previously scheduled trip to Florida will be a good thing for the busy family.
There is always considerable stress for the Sowers family associated with living in Honduras and trying to keep up with the ongoing work. COVID-19 and the accompanying restrictions have multiplied their stress levels.
The growing needs in Honduras have greatly inflated the expense of operating Sowers4Pastors while many people in the U.S. are facing their own financial challenges and are unable to donate as much as they normally might.
Many U.S. churches are still not meeting in person and that has been a factor in the decreased number of backpacks to be collected. Meanwhile, if parents in Honduras are having to work harder to feed their families, they have likely given up the thought of sending their kids to school. Free backpacks filled with school supplies could make all of the difference.
Kirstin’s plans to move to Honduras have been in limbo since May. The whole situation has been stressful, but the hope is that she will be there by the end of 2020.
Kelsea is trying to figure out what her schedule will look like. She is planning to return to Honduras to do some work there, but she plans on returning home to family for Christmas and the much-anticipated birth of her niece.
Ben is facing big life decisions right now, as he contemplates career options while continuing to deal with schoolwork.
There are praises to share, too!
A lot of people have stepped up and given sacrificially to the ministry.
Sowers4Pastors had built up an emergency fund for times such as these. While they’ve been going through the fund more than they would like, they are exceedingly grateful that they have had it for feeding the hungry.
Everybody is healthy. This is no small praise! Iris’s pregnancy is going well. No one has contracted COVID-19. This is good.
Even though Russell will not be returning to Florida this year, the Sowers’s Family Reunion will continue as scheduled. During his time in the States, Russell was able to spend time with everyone--just not at one time.
Allen and Kirstin safely made it out to Texas and safely avoided the hurricane - they are now almost back to Edgewater, FL.
Please continue praying for the Sowers4Pastors crew and the ministry. As always, it is very much appreciated.
